Research

I am interested in how randomness from environmental and demographic stochasticity shapes populations and ecosystems. The way that organisms persist or go extinct is not a smooth and preordained process but is instead affected by chance fluctuations in ecosystem variables (examples) and even in the order of births and deaths at an individual level. My work aims to use mathematical modeling and empirical data from the lab and literature to understand and predict what will happen to populations.
